VOLUNTEER ANIMATORS PROGRAM

[ join ]

Maimonides Geriatric Centre's Volunteer Animators' Program is a pilot project whereby CEGEP and University students as well as other mature volunteer animators are trained and then placed in our Accredited Homes (foster or group homes for the elderly) and the Intermediate Resource Residences to provide activity and stimulation to the residents. The primary goals of this project are to work towards the maintenance and stability of the elderly residents in their environment and to upgrade the quality of life to the residents through the implementation of recreational and socialization activities. Activities include: friendly visiting, discussion groups, board games, current events, sing-a-longs, music appreciation etc. The skills, talents and interests of the volunteers often determine the activity. Volunteers work in pairs when placed in the residences.

Volunteers are asked to make a 12 week commitment with a minimum of 2 hours per week. Volunteers meet as a group every 2 weeks for supervision, planning and on-going training and visit the residences according to their placement schedules. At the end of the 12 weeks, volunteers are presented with a certificate of participation and reference letters.
