For a seventh straight year, the Maimonides Battle of the Bands™ was a sellout success!  Close to 2,000 people attended the rock shows over the two-night event at Metropolis. Featuring distinctive performances from eight bands, Battle of the Bands helped to raise close to $ 250,000 for Maimonides! Monies raised go toward the Suite Dreams campaign - a capital renovation project to refurbish all of the resident living spaces. The $7 million project will be completed in 2010, ahead of schedule and on budget, completely funded by donor dollars.

FULL ACCREDITATION STATUS GRANTED TO MAIMONIDES
In October 2009, a team of surveyors from Accreditation Canada met with the Maimonides community partners, board members, staff, volunteers, residents and family members in order to assess the standards of quality and safety at our Centre.

Garnering high praise for the quality of care given to its residents, Maimonides Geriatric Centre subsequently received incredible feedback during the general debriefing session.

Surveyors Gayle Campbell and Steven Campbell each said they would be proud to work at Maimonides, and had trouble narrowing our achievements down to just a few – but they pointed to the success of the Suite Dreams capital renovation campaign, our research program, Art for Healing and Planetree as examples of excellence at Maimonides.

Maimonides has been granted full accreditation status by Accreditation Canada.  A final report will be available in six months.

SAFETY BOOKLET
Following through on its stated commitment of Working Together for a Safer Environment, a new safety booklet was recently introduced at Maimonides for all staff, family members of residents, and visitors to the Centre. The new booklet covers a range of topics including what to do if you see a resident fall, how to prevent and control infection, and how to deal with wandering residents.
