Who we are?
Affiliated with McGill University, Maimonides Geriatric
Centre delivers a full range of quality care to meet
over 600 clients’ needs with dignity and respect.
Our integrated network includes the Helen and Sam
Steinberg Day Hospital, short-term respite stays,
community-based homes and various long-term care
accommodations. Maimonides fulfills an essential
role in the Montreal community. The Centre's staff
has created a vibrant and innovative environment
that focuses on the highest standards of care. Maimonides'
programs have been recognized for their excellence
with many national and international awards. The
Centre is fully accredited by the Canadian Council
of Health Services Accreditation from whom it recently
received a stellar evaluation for its professional
and compassionate care.
The 19th annual Maimonides- RBC Dominion Securities
Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday,
June 3rd, 2010, at Elm Ridge Country
Club. This golf tournament is organized
by and benefitting the Maimonides Geriatric Centre
Foundation.
The mission of the Maimonides Geriatric Centre
Foundation is to provide the financial resources
and leadership required to enhance the quality of
life of the Centre's residents. Over the years, the
Maimonides Foundation, through the generosity of
its donors, has invested over $25 million for facilities
and services to improve the quality of life of the
Centre’s residents.
This year’s project
Every year, the golf tournament raises funds to
meet a particular need for the residents at Maimonides.
Thanks to your involvement, the proceeds of this
year's tournament will positively impact the quality
of life at Maimonides. Monies raised from the 2010
tournament will help to establish the Maimonides
Centre for Research in Aging. As a McGill University
affiliate we know that research will have a direct
impact on the quality of care while uncovering, promoting
and sharing new knowledge. In this our 100th anniversary
year, we are ready to take the centre to the next
level, building on our strengths while becoming the
resource of choice for the elderly of Quebec and
a model of excellence for long-term care everywhere.
Audience
This event reaches a very high-end clientele of
predominantly corporate people. The 144 golfers come
from various professions including doctors, lawyers,
accountants, financiers and business people. Most
people come back year after year to support the event.
There are approximately 700 individual donors including
advertisers in the popular Maimonides Gazette Golf
supplement and those who provide gifts and prizes
for the participants. Our donors continue to tell
us that this is one of the most fun and enjoyable
golf tournaments in the city. Considering that there
are over 60 fundraising golf tournaments in Montreal
every year, that’s a big compliment. We believe
the reason we are so successful is because we have
a personal relationship with all the donors. The
tournament is run completely by the Maimonides Foundation
staff of 5 as well as a very active and dedicated
volunteer Golf Committee and Co-Chairs who put an
incredible amount time and energy into making this
event the success that it is.
Publicity
The Maimonides Golf Tournament is the only tournament
in the city with a Golf Supplement that is distributed
in the Gazette to over 91,000 homes. This 40-page
colour supplement is composed of ads (approx 100
ads) and articles related to the mission of the Centre
as well as the fundraising efforts that are ongoing.
There are also articles about the tournament that
appear in the Gazette Social Column as well as other
columns like Applause , in the Canadian Jewish News
and in the local west-end weekly The Suburban. The
tournament is front and center on the Maimonides
website at www.maimonides.net.
Comparison of Other Tournaments
The Maimonides Golf Tournament raises the third
largest amount of money of any other tournament in
the city, after the Jewish General Hospital and Cedars
Cancer Research. It should be noted that these use
36 holes and have double the number of golfers. These
tournaments use a contracted paid event coordinator,
thus losing the personal touch Maimonides brings
to its event while increasing expenses. Per capita,
the Maimonides Golf Tournament raises the most money
with 144 golfers.
Tournament Success
When the Maimonides Golf Tournament started 19 years
ago, it raised $20,000. The 2008 tournament raised
an outstanding $300,527. In 2009, at the height
of the economic downturn, the tournament reached
its fundraising goal of $200,000, when many tournaments
were postponed. It is not by chance that the Maimonides
Golf Tournament is so successful. It is the personal
touch of running the tournament with our staff
and a very dedicated Golf Committee. It is the
feeling one gets when attending the tournament,
the smiles from the staff and the appreciation
of our donors. Each year the money from the tournament
is allocated to a particular project to benefit
the quality of life of our residents. The funds
are used in the same fiscal year. Maimonides is
proud that we reach our goals and do what we say
we will do with the money from our sponsors. Year
after year, our participants and donors return.
Why? Because they are supporting a great cause,
making contacts, networking and having fun.
