December 11, 2007 -- The 5th annual Maimonides Battle of the Bands was a rock'n success generating $250,000 towards the Suite Dreams Capital Renovation Campaign to refurbish all of the residents' rooms. Two sellout crowds packed Metropolis on Wednesday December 5th and Thursday December 6th to hear eight amateur bands made up of dentists, lawyers and other professionals belt it out to raise funds for Maimonides Geriatric Centre. This year, for the first time, Maimonides rolled out the red carpet for its sponsors with a cocktail reception before the show featuring Battle of the Bands producer Ian Cooney and Sky Lounge.

"This is a gem of an event that just keeps getting better and better," says Rory Olson who co-chairs this year's Battle of the Bands along with Gerry Kandestin and Terri Klein.

On December 5th, Gerry Kandestin and Friends performed along with Switchback, Who Cares and NEW this year, The Steamfitters. 13 year-old singing sensation Nikki Yanofsky, who got her start at the 2005 Maimonides Battle of the Bands, made a surprise appearance. On December 6th, Benny and the Healers, UB Over 40, Surf Sisters and NEW this year, The Dynamics put on a great show. (Click here for complete listing of band members). Andy Nulman was an exceptional MC for both nights opening the show performing with The Matt Demons.

"I get calls about Battle all year-long. So many important people in the community support this one-of-a kind event. I am thrilled to be a part of the organizing committee," says co-chair Terri Klein who also serves as Maimonides Auxiliary President.

Event sponsors: Dorel and Scotiabank. Other sponsors include: Steve's Music Store, the law firm of Kugler Kandestin, "Who Cares", SOGO T-Shirts, Globe Metal, King Canada, Delmar, American Iron and Metal Media Sponsors: CJAD, MIX 96 and CHOM 97.7 FM. Food was provided by Dagwoods, Krispy Kreme, Canvend and Dubord and Rainville.

This year's sold out event was such a huge success that people are already signing up to participate in 2008..maybe at the Bell Centre.
