Over the past few years, Maimonides has made a concerted effort to improve the physical environment of the facility. Since the average length of stay at the Centre is 3 years, creating a warm functional and home-like atmosphere has been a priority.
As a result, the Centre - with the invaluable assistance of the Foundation - has undergone many dramatic changes.
- 22 bathing and shower rooms were gutted and replaced with softly lit, ultra-modern facilities with state-of-the-art equipment.
- in order to enhance the interaction between caregiver and resident, many nursing stations have been demolished and replaced with comfortable and practical living rooms where residents can sit, enjoy breakfast and visit with family members.
- all dining rooms underwent major change with the addition of a warm new colour scheme, comfortable contemporary seating and attractive wood-trimmed tables
- many activity rooms have all become attractive homey environments with comfortable seating and other facilities suited to the specific needs of the residents on each pavilion.
- the cafeteria has been completely refurbished and modernized and resituated in a more desirable location.
- the Synagogue has been totally renovated and serves as an attractive and functional space for prayer as well as other large scale activities.
- all resident beds have been replaced with ultra-modern and highly functional electronic beds for the ultimate comfort of the residents.
- a new call bell system has been installed in residents' rooms, bathrooms, bathing areas and activity rooms.
- a therapeutic unit has been created on the third floor pavilion to respond to the special needs of those with severe cognitive impairment.
